The Sect, Sex and Skin We’re In

“I read the news today”… and it was sad. Though the headline making Gee Oh Pee-ers were ludicrous… I was not… still am not… laughing… not when they’re prejudging folks based on Sect, Sexual Identity and Skin Tone.

To name names… we’re talking about the likes of the totally unlikeable North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory who has just signed legislation to forbid municipalities from banning discrimination against the LGBT community.

To name other names… we’re talking about the reprehensible, un-presidential presidential wannabes Donald Trump and Ted Cruz and how they’re demanding the wholesale surveillance, round up, detention and torture of Muslims.

These odious, odorous Right Wing politicians, many of them DRESSED FOR REGRESS in their white sheets… and accessorized with similarly hued pointy hoods… are attempting to drag our society down to their level… cause us to free-fall countless rungs lower on the human evolutionary ladder… plunge us all into their “home-sweet-home”, bottomless pit of putrid, primordial goo.

Suffice to say, unlike the abovementioned Righties, we the educated critical thinkers, fully understand that there is one AND ONLY ONE acceptable way to categorize humanity… namely… truly get to know people… observe them… read about them and then ask ourselves, “Are they GOOD or BAD?”

Based on what I’ve been seeing / reading about GOP Land, it is the rare exception to find a Republican who is not outright BAD!

So, why am I, a straight, Caucasian, lapsed Catholic getting so worked up over discrimination involving sexual orientation, race and religion?

Well, Martin Niemöller can answer that Q far better than I. Said he…

“First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out — Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out — Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out — Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me — and there was no one left to speak for me.”

Folks, with only minor modifications, what Niemöller had  once stated so eloquently, boldly marches forward into our 21st century… check it out…

First they came for the Gays, Lesbians, Bisexuals and Transgenders — and I did not speak out — Because I was not Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual or Transgender.

Then they came for the African-Americans and Hispanics — and I did not speak out — Because I was not an African-American or Hispanic.

Then they came for the Muslims and Jews, and I did not speak out — Because I was not a Muslim or a Jew.

Then they came for me — and there was no one left to speak for me.
