1-22-17: My 2 Cents’ Worth… 2 Pennies For Your Thoughts?

Occam tells us that the simplest explanation is usually the truth.

If so, that’d mean that whenever “Tweety” is Twittering, he’s actually frittering away his precious time excessively obsessing over inconsequential crap.

But… what if these Tweets are a smokescreen… being posted by one of his surrogates… a devious stratagem expressly designed to distract the press corps from their real duties… being investigative journalists?

If so, that’d mean, within that oval shaped, corporate boardroom, some really dark, creepy, unethical and illegal crap could easily unfold unabated… and, worse yet, go totally unnoticed.

SURPRISE!!! A-List Talent For Washington (AC)~DC

Whatever you do, playback this musical medley to the very end. Christina Ramos has got us covered with her cover of a couple of classic tunes.

Folks… this is the type of surprise A-List Talent, which DC desperately needs today. Her transition of genres sends the appropriate message and succinctly assesses the road conditions here in America… the rocky, potholed road we’re now heading down as of High Noon on this Inauguration Day Friday.

To quote from my blog (posted yesterday)…

“For all liberally, ethically and patriotically minded Americans (and likeminded souls throughout our global community) there’ll be NO TGIF this week… perhaps never again… and that’s for damned sure!”

Oh, btw… I’ve not forgotten all the Rock ‘n’ Roll purists out there, either. Check out the original recording.

Oh… one final thought…

GOD HELP US… WE AIN’T GOT A PRAYER!!!

WE ARE ON THE HIGHWAY TO HELL!!!

“I fear tomorrow I’ll be crying…”

Today’s lead video features a virtually stripped down to the bare lyrics rendition of the King Crimson composition, Epitaph… a collaborative effort of bandmates Robert Fripp, Ian McDonald, Greg Lake, Michael Giles & Peter Sinfield… one, which showcases the a cappella, emotionally driven performance by the late, great Greg Lake (11/10/1947 ~ 12/7/2016).

These five songsmiths originally spoke of a confused world gone mad and, in view of more contemporary political events, their words are proving to be even more relevant… perhaps even prophetic… than when first penned in 1969.

EITHER give this song a listen prior to OR while reading onward to learn my reason for featuring it at this particular point in American History.

It all boils down to this…

Ever since we first learned that the Russians had hacked into and warped the outcome of last November’s Election Day… and that the GOP powers-that-be are not concerned in the least… only care about untying the pretty bow and tearing off the gift wrapping paper from Putin’s “present”… I’ve been dreading this particular Friday (a.k.a. tomorrow… a.k.a. the Inauguration Day from HELL).

Yep, phase two of the GOP/KGB overthrow of America is now breathing down our collective neck. For all liberally, ethically and patriotically minded Americans (and likeminded souls throughout our global community) there’ll be NO TGIF this week… perhaps never again… and that’s for damned sure!

Ergo, from this DJ’s POV, Epitaph sets the appropriate mood for what is certain to pan out as a societally, ecologically and economically backward four years ahead… if we even last that long. That’s all in doubt since the unethical, excessively empowered rightwingers will start calling ALL the shots tomorrow… and are virtually unchecked by the powerless leftwingers.

Indeed, this horrific imbalance will produce such deleterious and devastating effects that, sooner or later (unlikely the latter), they’ll go rippling outward until they negatively severely impact every last damned life form fighting for survival on our politically imperiled planet.

No, I’m not being melodramatic… unless by some unforeseen miracle there’s a drastic 180-degree shift in the attitude of the unprincipled, principle political players residing on the far, Far, FAR right…

We are SCREWED!!!

But, returning to the music at hand, let’s now give a listen to Epitaph’s fully orchestrated mix… get a preview glimpse of what could easily become America’s / our world’s not too distant future.

One thing for sure, whenever I view this vid, I can empathize with the profound sorrow the depicted man is feeling. It’s as if I’m living out that last man on Earth scenario… walking, all alone, through the rubble of that post nuclear war apocalypse.

In the event that either or both of these videos, someday, get yanked from YouTube here’s the printout of the lyrics.

Epitaph (including: March For No Reason and Tomorrow and Tomorrow)

By Robert Fripp, Ian McDonald, Greg Lake, Michael Giles & Peter Sinfield

The wall on which the prophets wrote,
Is cracking at the seams.
Upon the instruments of death,
The sunlight brightly gleams.
When every man is torn apart,
With nightmares and with dreams.
Will no one lay the laurel wreath,
As silence drowns the screams.

(Chorus)

Confusion will be my epitaph
As I crawl a cracked and broken path
If we make it we can all sit back and laugh,
But I fear tomorrow I’ll be crying,
Yes I fear tomorrow I’ll be crying.

Between the iron gates of fate,
The seeds of time were sown.
And watered by the deeds of those
Who know and who are known.
Knowledge is a deadly friend,
When no one sets the rules.
The fate of all mankind I see,
Is in the hands of fools.

(Repeat chorus)

My Farewell Message to the Last POTUS… Barack Obama

Dear President Obama,

My landline’s answering machine logged and recorded the following message on Sunday, November 2, 2008 at 2:45 p.m.

“Hi! This is Barack Obama. Tuesday’s Election Day and now is the time to let our voices be heard at the polls. We have a lot at stake in this historic election. There is a clear choice between more of the same from the Republicans and the change I will bring to Washington, DC. So, please go to the polls on Tuesday. Take your friends and family with you and cast a vote for the change we need. Thanks so much. Bye-bye.”

Mr. President, long before your phone call, your campaign’s substance and style had wowed me and won me over… EARNED both my vote and undying respect.

Within two days, I found myself walking (at a brisk pace) to my nearby polling place (my once upon a time high school). As I began marking my paper ballot, I not only sensed the history, which you had alluded to, but also your imminent victory. While watching my completed ballot getting sucked into the slot, it dawned on me that I had never been so impressed by a presidential candidate since…

…1972, when, as a newly turned eighteen-year-old, I had voted for George McGovern.

…1960, when, as a six-year-old, my mother had hoisted me up in the voting booth to permit me to downward shift the lever next to John F. Kennedy’s name.

As the 2008 Election Night returns started filtering in, sure enough, state-by-state, the map of America was turning a dazzling, predominantly blue hue. I felt so thrilled that our nation appeared to be finally shedding our ugly, racist past.

Unfortunately, appearances can be deceiving… i.e., in shedding their white sheets and hoods, not everyone was amenable.

Soon after you took the Oath of Office, we discovered several ugly and inconvenient truths, namely…

  1. The GOP’s dishonorable, tantrum throwing, white elephant legislators would neither honor the concept of majority rules nor allow most of your campaign trail’s promised programs to ever see the light of day. You even had a hell of a time getting your appointees approved. Most notably, regrettably and tragically… your SCOTUS nominee, Merrick Garland, was doomed to languish in that obscene, oppressive, obstructionist limbo.
  2. The GOP is imbued and infested with racism… many of their Wonder Bread elite (still) wrongfully considering you to be only a 3/5 human being who isn’t the U.S. citizen and man, who you are.
  3. The work that We had sent you to Washington to do on our behalf (in too many instances) would be limited to executive orders that your successor can (and will) promptly run through the shredder. Little doubt, #45 will reduce the bulk of the U.S. Constitution / Bill of Rights to constitutional confetti, too.

Yet, in spite of your first term’s constant head-on collisions with these closeted Klansmen… We, indeed, thumbed our noses / whipped our middle digits at them to defy them… and most importantly… to make damned sure We’d reelect you in 2012.

Throughout your two-term tenure, We, the open-minded, were impressed by your intelligent leadership and so proud to call you our President. What you had worked was nothing short of a miracle. You saved America after your immediate predecessor’s reign of terror had mucked up nearly everything.

We knew that if a crisis situation were to ever arise, we could count on you to act responsibly (not recklessly) to preserve, protect and defend America… to always relegate war to the bottom of the list of options.

Internationally… You did all you could to reduce America’s presence in W’s devastated and destabilized Afghanistan and Iraq. Regrettably, even over a decade later, those battlefields still remain a quagmire.

Suffice to say, it is unforgivable how your sociopathic predecessor (that warmonger, war profiteer and torture chamber proprietor) had deliberately and corruptly cherry-picked the intelligence to concoct the FANTASY of Saddam Hussein’s WMD and links to 9/11… which had falsely justified W’s provocation of his endless, NO-WIN Iraq war.

What makes this even more tragic is tens of thousands of troops, needlessly wound up wounded and suffering from PTSD and 4,491 (and still counting) have died. The incalculable amount of civilians (likely multiple millions) also needlessly suffered a similar fate. Also unforgiveable was how W had bombed the crap out of a region a.k.a. Mesopotamia… “The Cradle of Civilization”.

Mr. President, your brains over brawn approach amply demonstrated how America could’ve successfully hunted down Osama bin Laden and other al Qaeda big shots without provoking either of W’s wars.

Domestically… You improved health, both figuratively and literally… saved us from the depths of W’s depression / the flat lining Wall Street collapse and, most dramatically, you reduced unemployment and saved the tanking out, living on fumes auto industry. Via Obamacare, 20 MILLION folks now have a better shot at getting and staying healthy.

You took those first steps toward the U.S. doing it’s share to alleviate global warming.

You fought for racial, gender / LGBTQ equality, religious tolerance and worker’s rights.

You ensured Lady Liberty’s torch would continue shining brightly… that liberty and justice would flourish for all!

On your watch we could count on your maturity and sobriety… we felt peace of mind and could fall asleep a lot easier than during W’s reign of terror.

I wish We could say the same once your successor gets sworn in (as of my posting time) in a little over 24 hours from now. However, We fully expect his insensitivity and incendiary nature to prevail.

I know I now speak on behalf of the bulk of this past November’s other 59,938,289 Hillary Clinton voters when I say, “We the intellectual and ethical folks will forever thank you and miss you.”

It has been our distinct honor and privilege to have known you, Mr. President… America’s very last POTUS.

BTW, long ago, I decided to save that 2008 message you left on my phone’s answering machine. I know I’ll be playing it back a lot over the course of the next four years OR until whenever that nuclear saber rattler Tweets most of our world’s seven plus billion souls into an early grave… buries our bodily ashes beneath the global ground zero rubble and radioactive dust.

Even if #45, somehow, manages to spare us from instantaneous immolation by those nuclear blasts / asphyxiation from those smothering mushroom clouds, his flat-out destruction of societal, ecological and economic conditions might even make some of us long for that more merciful, instantaneous nuclear apocalypse.

My apologies for ending this on a downer… but that’s precisely the type of ‘tude #45 “inspires”.

Mr. President… I wish you and your family all the best in whatever time remains for our beloved America and precious world.

My fond farewell, my friend!

Dr. Martin Luther King’s Timeless Commentary

Earlier this evening, I posted the blog titled, “I Had A Dream… (99 Word Blog #083)”… ended it with a question… wondered, were he alive today, what would Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. have said about the soon to be sworn in #45.

King’s spot-on, timeless commentary re the GOP’s 1964 presidential candidate Barry Goldwater amply demonstrates how deep-seated racism still is in present-day America.

“The Republican Party geared its appeal and program to racism, reaction, and extremism…On the urgent issue of civil rights, Senator Goldwater represents a philosophy that is morally indefensible and socially suicidal. While not himself a racist, Mr. Goldwater articulates a philosophy, which gives aid and comfort to the racist. His candidacy and philosophy would serve as an umbrella under which extremists of all stripes would stand. In the light of these facts and because of my love for America, I have no alternative but to urge every Negro and white person of goodwill to vote against Mr. Goldwater and to withdraw support from any Republican candidate that does not publicly disassociate himself from Senator Goldwater and his philosophy.”

I thank MLK and the Huffington Post for supplying the answer to my question.

I Had A Dream… (99 Word Blog #083)

On this national holiday honoring the life and times… remembering the tragic death of Martin Luther King, what could any kind-hearted soul say that’d have any meaning anymore?

We ARE talking about the same nation, which has inexcusably installed a bigoted entity to the highest elective office in the land.

In the next four years, we, who still care, will be shedding tears while witnessing what little progress America has made towards the realization of King’s dream writhing around in an agonizing, life or death, deathbed struggle to survive.

Wonder what Dr. King would say were he alive today?
