Poem à la Seuss?

Theodor Geisel was born on this day in 1904. Under the pen name, Dr. Seuss, he went on to author 46 children’s books, among them “And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street” , ”The Cat in the Hat” and “Green Eggs and Ham.”

My elementary school days had neatly coincided with the good doctor’s rise to fame and my memories of that special time (in both of our lives) still centers upon his entertaining, whimsical story lines… all of which stirred my love of reading and spurred my own imagination.

In Dr. Seuss’  memory, I’ve attempted to capture and apply his writing style to my own story line… which zeroes in on a real zero… i.e., a certain, present-day politician’s traits. Oh… how I wish I could categorize this as a work of fiction.

Alas… facts are facts…

He’s pompous ass, a horse’s rump
He roadblocks progress, like speed bump

His bully pulpit is the stump
His Tweetstorms brand him, toddler / grump

On laws (God’s / Man’s), he takes huge dump
He dissed / pissed Nancy, The House ump

He swims in cesspool, swamp and sump
His platform / ethics in a slump

His toadies cling to him and clump
Butt kissers bloat his ego / pump

He’s pudgy, rolypoly plump
He is a “non-10”, flabby lump

He cheats on wife / he’s cad, clod, chump
Each “non-10”, he will brand a frump

With porn stars / playmates he doth hump
In bed with Fascists, he will jump

He’s challenged more than Forrest Gump
That’s bully bastard, Donald Trump
