Fortune Cookie Blog: Goodwill

A 30-year, now retired, retail veteran can still vividly relate recollections
of December’s mixed emotions; loving to help shoppers select gifts for
family and friends, yet, loathing greedy giftees’ insensitive intentions to
morph returns into cold cash refunds; often in the very presence of the
dismayed gifters. To this very day said salesperson cannot help but ask:
Whatever happened to gracious acceptance of tasteful useful presents?
Why are 2 basic, monosyllabic words, Thank You, so tough to come by?
Even if a gift is not exactly right, why not discretely donate it to charity?

Fortune Cookie Blog (deck the hauls?)

So, what was your holiday haul like? Did any gift giver disappoint you?
Unless there’s a defect or size issue, graciously thank them and keep it.
If you still don’t want it, be charitable; donate it to someone who does.
The lousy alternative would be to insult the gift giver; or far worse yet,
pester them for a receipt; so you can greedily pocket the cash refund.

Fortune Cookie Blog (3-D Spirituality)

To profess spirituality is as E-Z as photographing a blessed house of worship.
But, do make sure such a claim isn’t as thin as a smartphone screen’s image.
Adding that third dimension starts with being attentive to the cleric’s homilies;
putting into practice the truths (s)he preaches; uplifting the day to day lives of
who we meet; offering a helping hand to the aged / infirm; being charitable to
the less fortunate; offering enlightenment to all who may dwell in darkness.
