Altruism and Avariciousness Can Both Breed Aggression

A power wielder’s projected presence upon our world can be motivated by either altruism or avariciousness.

Selflessness (as incredible as this sounds), is not always welcomed… not when the recipient nation’s head of state is an oppressor… one who gets easily pissed off by any outsider providing humanitarian aid. After all, no oppressor takes kindly to anyone who’d dare to ease the unspeakable human suffering of the oppressed.

Selfishness (no big surprise), is never welcomed… not when the targeted nation’s head of state knows fully well that the intent of his plundering oppressor / attacker is to grab real estate and/or gobble up natural resources. Such a victimized leader will… justifiably so… feel pissed off, too.

Either scenario can result in retaliatory attacks… such aggression fueling an endless feeding frenzy of subsequent eye-for-an-eye magnitude vengeance.

While that stark reality would ALMOST make it seem prudent for every leader to embrace mind-your-own-damned-business isolationism… well… this would likely wind up a unilateral prospect. Such a stance would aid and abet the in-your-face oppressor / aggressor adversary. And that then raises the issue, which no compassionate soul could ever accept… namely…

Whoever would dare to harm even one innocent soul harms us all.

All of these inevitable, regrettable realities can only emphasize the precarious, catch-22 nature of international relations and… inserting my own long exhaled, exasperated sigh here… the inevitable, regrettable reality of terrorism / warfare.

We can never expect aggression / oppression to vanish off the face of this Earth until humanity… somehow… someway… figures out how to consistently ensure madmen are never allowed to rise to power in the first place… ensure the mentally unstable are institutionalized so they can receive the therapy they so desperately need.

9/11 Message ~ Sagan’s WorldView (Hindi Translation)

Originally, Carl Sagan’s stellar oratory had summed up his eloquent reaction to the Valentine’s Day 1990, Voyager 1, Pale Blue Dot snapshot (taken from our solar system’s outer edge). However, on this day, the 17th anniversary of 9/11, the wise, heartfelt, timeless sentiments of this American astronomer, cosmologist, astrophysicist, astrobiologist, author, science popularizer and science communicator take on extra special meaning.

Indeed… his words do live on… but… will we?

Such a spot-on, soul searching speech exemplifies the common bond we humans share with each other… translates out well… spans the ages, acreage and cultures of Earth. No better proof of this fact is the above video featuring Azhar Meghani’s English to Hindi translation / voice-over and editor Lokesh Kumar’s skillfully juxtapositioned, cross-culturally appropriate imagery.

Terrorism and warfare would soon vanish off the face of the Earth were the entire human race to fully embrace Dr. Sagan’s worldview. Consider this his urgent appeal for peaceful co-existance amongst all Earthlings everywhere!

So fleeting a video’s existence can be… so vital is Sagan’s message… I’m including this text version, too.

“Look again at that dot. That’s here. That’s home. That’s us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every “superstar,” every “supreme leader,” every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there–on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.

The Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that, in glory and triumph, they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of this pixel on the scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner, how frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds.

Our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the Universe, are challenged by this point of pale light. Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity, in all this vastness, there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves.

The Earth is the only world known so far to harbor life. There is nowhere else, at least in the near future, to which our species could migrate. Visit, yes. Settle, not yet. Like it or not, for the moment the Earth is where we make our stand.

It has been said that astronomy is a humbling and character-building experience. There is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another, and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we’ve ever known.”

Since videos are oft short lived I’m also providing an alternative, offsite YouTube clip to view and the full text to read below.

Tweetstorms, Terrorism, Taxes & Testosterone

Being a big fan of alliteration, I could not help but notice all of the “T” words in which one can neatly compartmentalize this past year’s front page news… hence my above blog headline.

Indeed, we are just about ready to say, “Good-bye”… or more to the point… “Good riddance” to 2017… a lousy year that was all about unevolved, little boys trapped in grown men’s bodies… little boys behaving badly… very, Very, VERY BADLY!

While I never opted into parenthood… nonetheless… my fatherly nature is still thoroughly ingrained within my DNA. To be sure, every instinct within my being now tells me that the time is ripe for some much overdue Father – Son chats.

And in spite of these talks involving XY entities, I still invite and encourage everyone in possession of XX chromosomes to read on, as well.

Tweetstorms

Bad Boy Donny:

You have the uncanny knack of knowing the exact wrong thing to say at any given moment… and then ignorantly and undiplomatically Tweeting / uttering your inflammatory words. Most notably and worrisome is how you’ve been targeting the enemy of your own making… North Korea’s Kim Jong Un.

Are you even remotely aware of how much carnage your “fire and fury” Tweetstorms could unleash? How there’s the potential for other, mentally deranged “world leaders” getting into that “the more the merrier” and “let’s all pile on” mindset? Thermonuclear exchange reducing our entire world to a burnt out cinder and irradiated graveyard may be how you choose to partay… but… then again… is that not how all of you terrorists roll?

FYI, don’t expect anyone who winds up being a survivor to ever come staggering towards what’s left of DC. No well-wishers will be gathering around you just to stroke your massive ego… to thank you as you boast about your “historic,” “epic,” “tremendous,” “biggest ever,” nuclear holocaust (NOTE: Words in “” are Donny’s uttered faves). After all, it’d be tough to talk while one is puking from both the radiation sickness and the revulsion we feel for you.

The best way you could “Make America Great Again”… the only way you could serve and save our nation… indeed our entire world… would be to veg out in front of the TV and/or go golfing every last damned day, which remains in your term… and not run for reelection!

Terrorism

Bad Boy Mass Murderers:

If you ever believe the voice in your head is god’s… guess again. If his words are prodding you to kill people, rethink that NOW! Guys, we are taking about a Supreme Being… an entity that created an entire universe. Do you really, Really, REALLY SERIOUSLY believe such an omnipotent force would even need to stoop so low as to outsource the extinction of the human race to insignificant blobs such as you?

In other words, you are no longer needed. Why not… you ask? Well, that’s because we already have two terrorists who are far better equipped to kill off seven plus billion humans. Indeed, you can outsource that task to the professionals… Dotard Donny and Killer Kim.

On a more positive note, believe it or not, there just might be some hope for you rank amateurs. How so… you ask? Well, many of you DO dredge up your god to justify your maiming and murdering of the masses. If you could no longer do so, might you even feel remorse? Think about it.

If nothing else, first, wrap whatever is left of your warped minds around that preceding paragraph and then stand down.

Taxes

Bad Boy Wealthy Whiners:

To be clear here, I have nothing against prosperous businessmen who live the good life. What I do take exception to is how you ingrates don’t fully appreciate America, a nation where the entire financial system is totally rigged in your favor… where this system lavishes upon you a “too big to fail status”. You, the powerful, are permitted to totally F-up your dirty deals, tank out the global economy and then gleefully laugh your asses off when Uncle Sam… in the role of Robin Hood in reverse… bails you out by shaking down the powerless working poor.

I also take exception to how you’ve accumulated more bucks than you could ever spend in five lifetimes… yet, still refuse to pay even five pennies in taxes.

Wake up call… if, after taxes, you still can enjoy your outrageously opulent lifestyle… just pony up and shut up!

Testosterone

Bad Boy Politicians, Hollywood Bigwigs and Mass Media Types:

Wake up you vile little boys. Guess what? In reality, healthy interpersonal relationships DO NOT play out like hardcore porn videos… ones that, no doubt, insensitive creeps like you routinely fast forward just to drool over the “money shots”.

Guess what? The male appendage (let’s refer to it as “IT”) is not akin to some sort of key that, on your mere whim, will open every door. “IT” does not act as a magic wand that… upon dropping your drawers and wildly waving it about… will instantly cast a spell that’ll suddenly, somehow, make you irresistible to your targeted, soon-to-be traumatized victims.

Even in the straight, consensual context… from a purely anatomical perspective… “IT” is primarily designed to provide the male pleasure… not the female. In other words Bad Boys… that blows your magic wand theory.

Until you Bad Boys stop objectifying the people you meet… until you first establish genuine friendships that’ll last even if they don’t lead both of you to the bedroom… until you learn to respect humankind… especially womankind… just zip up and shut up!

End of Father – Son Chats? Not likely… we are talking about unevolved, little boys trapped in grown men’s bodies… little boys behaving badly… very, Very, VERY BADLY! And, regrettably, that’s a species that’s nowhere even close to becoming endangered.

Desperation Sits Behind the Wheel

Another act of mass murder. Once again the “latest rage” terrorist MO… vehicular manslaughter. This time in lower Manhattan / NYC.

My heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of the 8 victims who perished and my best wishes for speedy recoveries to the 11 injured… to fullest extent that is humanly / medically possible.

This latest incident begs many questions…

WTF would drive anyone to commit such a heinous crime against humanity? Is it simply a matter of waking up and saying…

“Hmmm… what shall I do today? Where should I go? Oh I know! I’ll hop into my vehicle, turn the key, start the engine, shift it into gear, lead foot it and mow down everyone in my path! Wheeeee!”

Long sigh. I’m sorry to say this, but…

Once again we’ll read the harrowing particulars and our hearts will grow heavy. And then… within mere days… we’ll have little choice but to get on with our busy lives. Sadly, we’ll repress the memories… we’ll have to. Self preservation will kick in. It’s either that or go nuts.

And that begs follow up questions…

Is the sheer frequency of such attacks having a detrimental effect on us? Are they desensitizing us? Will such stories in the news wind up morphing into something resembling sportscasts… the death and injury statistics akin to the “final score” in each “game”?

While I could never, actually, feel that cynical, I am only human. I need to hold onto my sanity, too.

Obviously our society in decay needs to be dealt with STAT! We must put an end to the class warfare perpetrated by those who wallow in obscene wealth… whose unconscionable, oppressive business practices relentlessly beat down, screw over and frustrate ordinary, everyday people… e.g., never, ever pay them living wages, force them to endlessly slave away in poverty… perhaps even in squalor.

Whenever a person’s efforts to get ahead get crushed every step of the way… no matter how hard they try… it can drive them to the point of desperation and outrage. Some will literally take their fight to the streets.

Hopelessness and desperation are the cancers eating away at our society. That’s what’s driving vehicles into crowds of pedestrians.

Meanwhile, back at the latest ground zero, last night, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo weighed in with some tough talk…

“Tonight we are at a Halloween parade to say, ‘You didn’t win. And you didn’t affect us. We’re out and we’re celebrating and we’re doing what New Yorkers do. And we’re living our lives because we’re not going to let the terrorists win. Period!’”

While I admire the steely resolve of Cuomo and the good people of NYC… would never rain on their parade… would never deny anyone their pursuit of happiness, we must never be unaffected. True, we must not cower. But until we right the wrongs of this ceaseless, avarice driven, class warfare which is at the root of these evil terrorist acts, terrorism will rear it’s ugly head again and again… likely someday soon.

Additionally, I cannot help but wonder if any would-be terrorist, within earshot of Cuomo’s words, would ever feel intimidated. Indeed, he would likely interpret that as the Governor throwing down the gauntlet… would counter with his own tough talk retort…

“Oh yeah? Well… we’ll see about that!”

He’d then casually hop into his vehicle, turn the key, start the engine, shift it into gear, lead foot it and mow down everyone in his path while saying, “Wheeeee!”

What then?

Another act of mass murder. Once again the latest rage terrorist MO… vehicular manslaughter. This time in ____________.

Fill in the blank… perhaps, with your hometown’s name? Perhaps with mine?

September BlogCast ~ A Heartfelt Plea for Harmony

My greetings to all of my WordPress blogging colleagues, followers and visitors! If you’re just here to hear the music, scroll down and start clicking away… these four selections will amply communicate my intended sentiments, which I’ll now further expand on… i.e., should you choose to read onward…

Initially, I found it tough to set the proper mood for this installment of our monthly musical get-together. I had to scuttle my original “hot fun in the summertime” theme… deeming it insensitive and inappropriate in the wake of all the death and destruction caused by Hurricane Harvey… considering how life may never fully return to normal for the millions of flooded out, uprooted survivors in Texas. My heartfelt condolences to folks who lost loved ones and hopes that you, who have survived, can restore your lives as much as possible and can find happiness again.

I’d have to ditto my mood barometer reading regarding all who were recently maimed and slaughtered during the eerily similar, vehicular ISIS terrorist attacks against Barcelona and Cambrils, Spain AND Nazis / Klansmen terrorist assaults against Charlottesville, Virginia. My wholehearted condolences to the all the good people who lost their loved ones and best wishes that the surviving victims recover speedily and as completely as possible. Hopefully, someday soon, happiness will be yours once more.

As if those meteorological and ideological storms weren’t bad enough, already, we, of good conscience, have also been deeply in mourning over the loss of the American presidency. And by saying “presidency” I’m referring to the monumental, leadership vacuum that’s been sucking the air out of the Oval Office… sucking the life force out of my homeland and our global community… all perpetrated by an ethically barren, morally bankrupt, avaricious and vicious, Orwellian, stick-figure figurehead.

In times of trouble, a nation’s citizenry should be able to count on their leader for a comforting pep talk… an FDR-esque, folksy fireside chat as it were… but… alas… long sigh…

Folks, it’s downright depressing and disgusting to observe the cannibalistic, parasitical, so-called prez…

  1. Feeding off the post-hurricane apocalypse’s human suffering… just to sate his voracious narcissistic hungers… just to erect a smokescreen to enshroud his nefarious, fascist political agenda.
  2. Feasting off the ISIS terrorist attacks in Spain just because that’ll wrongfully validate his flat-out hatred of all Muslims1. It is stunning how… practically in the same breath… he lavishes praise upon un-american [sic] Nazis and Klansmen… sucking up to them just so they’ll help reelect him in 2020.

Net effect, the so-called prez, has wildly emboldened these domestic terrorists. Left unchecked, these co-conspirators… the pathetic “prez” and his deplorable pals… will violently subvert all that the real America stands for. We’re likely witnessing the rebirth of Nazi Germany.

So what the hell does that make the so-called prez? An Adolf Hitler / David Duke hybrid? Did some nefarious, eager beaver recombinant DNA scientist mutate him? Did a psychotic psychosurgeon lobotomize / reprogram him? Or was he “merely” born and/or reared that way? Whatever the cause of his mental illness/illnesses, we can only wish him a speedy, complete and permanent recovery. In this modern medical era, no one should be condemned to live out one’s life bouncing off the rubberized walls… be they real or hallucinated.

The real America’s survival… indeed the survival of the whole world… depends on a sane presidency and sound minded leaders elsewhere, too. How else could we ever hope to see our global population live in harmony?

That plea for harmony is from where I now take my musical cue… set the tone for this month’s BlogCast.

Folks, I find the negativity of what I just blogged… to say the least… disturbing. What else can I conclude than negative leaders bring out the worst in me, indeed, in every like-minded, warmhearted, ethical patriot who truly gives a damn? And that has got to change… starting with the legal, orderly and peaceable ouster of such negative entities.

But, until the day that becomes reality… I believe the following music will provide an ear and eye opening… a mind expanding and mood elevating experience.

Accompanying only my sparse, supplemental commentary, I’ll now let the songwriters’ and singers’ sentiments speak for themselves.

Ray Stevens ~ Everything Is Beautiful

Admittedly, I would’ve preferred this track’s religious undercurrents to have been more inclusive of faiths other than Christianity… but… when we consider the less globalized era in which this song was first composed and recorded, would not genuine believers of all religious stripes be forgiving? Additionally, I sincerely believe one can also be agnostic and still be fully capable of concurring with the overall message of unity. Oh, btw, you can also give a listen to an alternate track featuring a duet performed by Ray Stevens and another of this month’s BlogCast featured artists, Glen Campbell.

The New Seekers ~ I’d Love To Teach The World To Sing

Many decades ago a slightly, lyrically modified, abridged version of this song became the soundtrack to a Coca Cola™ commercial, which you can view here.

Glen Campbell ~ Try A Little Kindness

I joyfully rediscovered this track just one week ago upon purchasing the late Mr. Campbell’s greatest hits CD… after finding it while grocery shopping at my local supermarket superstore. I first heard Campbell perform on the late Sixties era, “Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour” TV show… a program with a distinctly, politically progressive POV… from where I derived own liberal attitude. Campbell died just a few short weeks ago on August 8, 2017. You can access a video tribute.

Peter, Paul & Mary ~ Weave Me The Sunshine

Peter Yarrow will now introduce this BlogCast finale… thusly…

“‘Weave Me The Sunshine’  became a very big hit in South Africa and in Brazil and ultimately of course it’s a song that has found it’s way into many churches and synagogues.”

About all I could possibly add, here, (as is true with nearly all folk music) it’s nearly impossible not to sing along with this upbeat and uplifting tune. And I recommend that we all add our voices… sing it loudly… sing it proudly… trump all of those negative vibes. Let us all spread outward its unifying, harmonizing message (indeed, the messages from all four of these songs) to all four corners of our world.

Thank you for listening on this day. If you LIKE what you heard, click back here

for my next BlogCast on Sunday, October 1, 2017.

Past programs are archived in my BlogCast and music categories.

1 We, who still can and do think clearly, fully realize that ISIS has mutilated and muddied true Islam and now exploits it just to justify their deadly, bloody attacks.

Message for Ideological / Meteorological Storm Survivors…

Preface: My tardiness in posting my heartfelt sentiments is based solely upon my uncertainty that any mere words appearing here, on my indescribably obscure website, can make any real difference to anyone anywhere. Nevertheless… and better late than never… here goes…

In our world besieged by relentless, horrifically devastating, manmade ideological and meteorological storms, I’m certain of only three things…

  1. Any direct attack that deprives even one kindly, innocent human soul of sweet freedom and/or precious life is an indirect assault against multiple billions of decent people… worldwide.
  2. We (potential victims all), who really do give a damn about humanity’s survival, would appear to be powerless in bringing about the necessary changes that could diminish / end those abovementioned disasters in the foreseeable future.
  3. Last but not least… be your attacker a freakish hurricane, tornado, rain/snow/ice/fire storm or drought… be your assailants Klansmen, Nazis, ISIS or a pseudo president traitor… I extend my profound sorrow and sympathy to each and every stressed out, suffering survivor AND my best wishes for a speedy recovery to the fullest extent that is medically, humanly and economically possible. My heartfelt condolences go out to all the good, heartbroken people whose family members, loved ones, dear friends and close acquaintances have perished.
