Music is my life… began playing a major role in sustaining me, emotionally at a very early age; especially after elementary and middle school bullies began making my life miserable; inclusive of their turning the lion’s share of the student body against me.
The exile they had driven me into, I suppose, hadn’t been all bad. After all, my laying low had also helped me avoid their verbal and physical assaults. However, to help make the social isolation a bit more bearable, I got by with a little help from my self-made, newfound, surrogate friends; the recording artists and the DJs who aired their music.
The trailblazing Beatles were first to fill my void. And while I was spinning their records on my monaural Zenith record player, countless other bands, trios, duos and solo artists (hailing from every corner of the world), were also making the scene (some of them enduring / others one-hit wonders).
At that juncture… I knew the score; enough to not only get me more in touch with the music, itself, but to also get me thru life; btw, my piano lessons, of that same era, helping to complete my own scene.
In essence, that keyboard became a proven lifesaver.
It was half a century later that I received an extraordinary birthday gift from my sister; an iPod, which, in turn, necessitated my making first contact with the Interwebs / iTunes; which, in turn, streamlined the organization of my vast music library which, in turn, introduced me to the MySpace music / blogging community.
At that juncture… I began venting my left leaning views via blogs, in turn, publishing them across the www; via my computer.
In essence, my device’s keyboard became, yet, another proven lifesaver.
So, to “A” the prompt’s “Q”…
“Are there things you try to practice daily to live a more sustainable lifestyle?
To be sure! Be it my reading sheet music’s treble and bass clef dots; be it proofreading my posts by crossing every “t” and dotting every “i”, both pastimes became… and to this very day… remain the driving force behind what it takes to keep me going.
